Syntactic Void-Filler Kits
 Specially engineered
syntactic formulated to serve as a void filler for subsea applications. The
material is provided as a multiple-part kit that is mixed and poured into any
free-flood cavity or void. These kits may be cast directly by the customer or
by trained ESS personnel.
ESS provided kits have been used in Puget
Sound Naval Shipyard and the shipyard at the Point Loma Naval Base. ESS has
also performed on-site syntactic installation at Point Loma, Norfolk Naval
Shipyard, Northrop Grumman Newport News, and at Electric Boat Groton. |

- SF-38 (pdf)
This three-part kit provides
28 pounds of salt-water buoyancy per cubic foot at operating depths to 4,000
feet. This easy-to-use epoxy system may be cast into any free flood cavity
without sophisticated equipment. This formulation has become the Navy standard
for void spaces.
- SF-32 (pdf)
A lower density version of the
standard three-part kit, this formulation can be used down to 3,000 feet with
an added 6 pounds of buoyancy per cubic foot. It is similarly trouble-free in
the casting process for customer convenience.
- SF-30
The lightest density epoxy
three-part kit, this formulation can be used down to 1,500 feet with an added 6
pounds of buoyancy per cubic foot. It is similarly trouble-free in the casting
process for customer convenience.
- SF-25 (pdf)
This low-density four-part kit
must be processed on site by ESS technicians in order to ensure proper
performance. Designed for repeated excursions to 1,000 psi, (2,270 feet), the
system uses a combination of microsphere and macrosphere technology to obtain
its low density.
- SF-22 (pdf)
Another low-density four-part
kit, this system is built for repeated excursions to 620 psi, (1,400 feet). The
syntactic also uses a combination of microsphere and macrosphere technology to
obtain its low density and must therefore be processed on site by ESS
technicians or by experienced shipyard personnel.
- PSF-42 (pdf)
This is a polyester based
syntactic specified in several Navy applications where ease of use rather than
low density is the critical factor. ESS personnel perform the casting of this
multi-component system.
