Deep Water Syntactic Foam

Designed and constructed for specific applications, these syntactic systems provide buoyancy even to the deepest ocean depths. Whether for man-rated or autonomous vehicles, the operation of these syntactic foam packages can be assured. Normally provided in block or sheet form, custom shapes are can be specially cast. Alternate density and hydrostatic strength systems can also be developed to meet customer requirements

ESS specifies its high performance syntactics according to the operating depth corresponding to the ocean layer. Densities may vary within the layer or overlap zones.

HZ Grade

Mesopelagic Zone 200 - 1000 meters
Bathypleagic Zone 1000 - 4000 meters
Abyssopleagic Zone 4000 meters - Ocean Floor
Hadal Zone ~ 10,000 meters

  • MZ Grade (pdf)
The MZ Grade of syntactic safely operates in the oceans Mesopalegic Zone, down to depths of 1,000 meters relatively shallow for these highly engineered systems. The standard products range in density from 32 - 38 lbs/ft³, but may be tailored to lower density if required.

  • BZ Grade (pdf)
The BZ Grade of material is specially engineered, high performance syntactic capable of operating within much of the Bathypelagic Zone. Due to the nature of the syntactic constituent materials, the BZ Grade is available in a range of densities from 24 to 30 lbs/ft³.

  • AZ Grade (pdf)
The AZ Grade of syntactics have been designed and constructed to operate in the deep-water regions of the ocean's Abyssopelagic Zone. Standard products range in density from 34 to 40 lbs/ft³.

  • HZ Grade (pdf)
The HZ Grade of syntactic has been formulated to survive the deepest depths of the ocean. This class of syntactic will survive crush pressures greater than 20,000 psi making for safe operation in the Hadal Zone.
